Comparing the playability of the stock DTX900 module, Addictive Drums, and Studio Drummer. This isn’t meant to show off any skills (as I’m primarily a marimbist) but if you’re thinking about using VST/AU’s for an electronic set, this will give ya some food for thought.

Nice job! Since most of us percussionists wind up doing drumset to some degree I think it’s a very good and appropriate post. Might you care to do a video explaining how you have everything hooked up and routed? How are you getting the midi cables interfaced with your laptop? Do you have to go in and assign the pads any particular way so that the pads correspond with the proper sound in the DAW? Is there much latency? Could you use this setup live? Those types of things I’d love to hear your take on. Quite fascinating, actually. Thanks again for a great post.

Hey there! Perhaps I could do a video on this! That would be fun. I’ve seen a number of groups around here use electronic sets. Some use a mix of real cymbals with fake drums. Thanks for the comments!
